Birdwatching in the garden of Plantation Lodge Such colorful birds as Fischer’s lovebirds or the yellow-bellied sunbird are regular visitors to Plantation Lodge. Our staff will explain the various bird species to you on a tour around our flowering garden.
Visit to a coffee plantation The coffee-exporting country Tanzania stands for very high quality products. A walk with one of our staff will lead to a neighboring coffee plantation. Here you will learn how coffee beans are treated and what steps are needed to make this delicious and aromatic beverage.
Visit to a farm With one of our staff you will visit one of the farms adjacent to the lodge. Here you will gain an insight into African country life: You will see how the people on the farm live and work.

Hiking in the Great Rift Valley in Manyara* Forest hike: Through open mixed forest the trail passes down the Great African Rift Valley. Here you can watch birds, monkeys, antelope and other animals. Listen to the sound of the forest and enjoy the freshness of the brooks and waterfalls. Time: 2.5 to 3 hours; required fitness: good to very good.
Nature walk: A short walk along the edge of the Great Rift Valley offers wonderful views of Lake Manyara and the national park. Here you will learn new things about plants, insects, birds and small mammals. Time: 1 to 1.5 hours; required fitness: moderate.
Bush dinner and nighttime game drive in Lake Manyara National Park* From the open jeep you will see nocturnal animals such as hippos, porcupines, genets, civets, bushbabies and – with some luck - leopards. The nighttime safari is an experience for the senses: the sounds of the night and the starry skies over Africa are truly impressive.
Hike in the Empakaai Crater* The Empakaai Crater has a diameter of six kilometers and lies in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is ideal for walking or hiking in unspoiled nature. Not only the edge of the crater, also the path down into the green caldera affords spectacular views of the crater lake and the surrounding area. If you’re lucky, you’ll see antelope, buffalo and many kinds of birds – including flamingos and pelicans - in the caldera.
